A variety of books can help keep your child interested in reading at home, and keep them learning about new topics and interests. Check out these great organizations that help make books free and accessible to everyone in our community.

There’s no place like the library when it comes to books! Free library cards are available to all Mecklenburg County residents, and all students enrolled in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as well as some private and charter schools, have free library accounts through the ONE Access program.

Getting mail can be exciting for children, especially when there are books involved! This free program, run locally by Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, mails one high quality, age-appropriate book a month directly to children’s homes, from the time they’re born until they turn five years old.

Find a Reach Out and Read partner clinic, which provides families with reading guidance and a new book at every routine well-child visit from birth to 5 years old.
